VANADINITE on CALCITE
Grey Horse Mine
Pinal County, Arizona
Numerous, highly architectural crystals of medium rust /red/orange-red Vanadinite crystals are scattered nicely about a white Calcite matrix. The largest of the Vanadinites measures to 0.25 x 0.25 x 0.25" with the entire specimen measuring 1.73 x 1.5 x 1.5". As noted in the article on the mine that appeared in the August 1980 issue of the Mineralogical Record, the Vanadinites "...exhibit a curious and distinctive habit which appears to be a combination of cavernous growth and multiple crystals forming composites." along with "...curious combinations of partly hollow crystals...".
